International Women’s Day is more than just a date on the calendar—it is a movement, a moment of reflection, and a powerful reminder of the resilience, courage, and strength that define women everywhere. It is a day to acknowledge our progress, the challenges we continue to face, and the unwavering spirit that keeps us moving forward.
Strength is often misunderstood. Many equate it with dominance, power, or perfection. But in reality, true strength lies in self-respect. It is the quiet courage to take risks, to do the uncomfortable things, and to push forward even when the path is uncertain. Strength is the ability to make mistakes, learn from them, and transform setbacks into stepping stones rather than regrets. It is about perseverance, resilience, and the confidence to stand in our truth.
Each of us carries a story of resilience. My journey has been shaped by struggles with depression, navigating menopause without the guidance or support I needed, and enduring the heartbreak of watching my child battle addiction. In my early 30s, after my marriage dissolved, I re-entered the workforce while raising two young sons, and faced uncertainty with determination.
These experiences didn’t break me—they strengthened me. They gave me a deeper understanding of pushing forward, even when the road ahead seemed impossible. They reinforced the importance of sharing our stories and lifting each other up because we are not alone in our struggles.
How many times have we held ourselves back because of fear? Fear of judgment, failure, or simply stepping into the unknown? What if we shifted our mindset—what if fear wasn’t a barrier but an invitation?
Self-respect empowers us to take risks, venture outside of our comfort zones, and believe in our own abilities even when the world tells us otherwise. We don’t need to be fearless; we just need to be brave enough to try.
“Strength is the ability to make mistakes, learn from them, and transform setbacks into stepping stones"
What does real support among women look like? It is in the way we amplify each other’s successes, extend a helping hand, and uplift each other in moments of doubt. We are stronger together, and it is through collaboration—not competition—that we build a future where every woman can rise.
As we honor this day, let’s make a commitment—not just to ourselves but to each other. How will we show up for the women in our lives? How will we encourage, support, and celebrate them?
To spark meaningful dialogue, I invite you to reflect on the following questions and share your thoughts:
1. What does being a “strong woman” mean to you?
2. Can you share a woman in your life who has inspired you and why?
3. What challenges do you think women face today that still need to be addressed?
4. How do you think society can better support and uplift women?
5. What advice would you give to young women striving to embrace their strength?
When we share our voices, we empower change. Let’s celebrate, uplift, and honor the incredible women around us—not just today, but every day.
